Dr. Arend Oetker was born before the start of the Second World War, in March 1939. From 1962 to 1966, he completed degrees in business administration and political sciences in Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, and later in marketing at Harvard Business School. He received his doctorate in 1966 for Dr. Ing. rer. pole. (PhD) at the University of Cologne.
Arend Oetker is managing partner of Dr. Ing. Arend Oetker Holding, a member of the Supervisory Board of COGNOS AG, and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Leipziger Messe. He is honorary chairperson of the board of directors of the food company Hero AG and honorary member of the supervisory board of KWS Saat SE.
Among other things, Arend Oetker is President of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), a member of the board of the Federal Association of German Employers’ Associations (BDA), and honorary member of the Presidium of the Federation of German Industries (BDI).
As a lover of music and contemporary art, Arend Oetker is active in the cultural circle of the German economy in the BDI Club, the renovation of St. Peter’s Church in Lübeck, and the founding of the Gallery for Contemporary Art in Leipzig. He also chairs the Board of Trustees for the Bach Archive Leipzig Foundation.
In 2007, he received the Great Federal Merit Cross of Germany. Arend Oetker is married and has five children.
